Event wrap-up: Greater London Watford & Reading property investment seminars

A big thank you to everyone who joined us across Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung for our recent UK property investment seminars.

Hosted by the Benham & Reeves Taiwan team, the sessions brought together investors from across North, Central and South Taiwan to explore what Greater London’s Watford and Reading property markets could offer in 2026.

The conversations were lively, practical and, most importantly, focused on what matters when considering an overseas property purchase: location, rental demand, financing, taxation and the longer-term potential of each development.

For those who couldn't join us in person, here are some of the key takeaways from the events.

Two locations worth watching

Our senior consultancy team took a closer look at two developments in Greater London and the factors that make their locations particularly interesting for overseas buyers.

The Exchange, Watford

Watford has become a popular choice for people who want easy access to London without paying the premium that comes with living in the capital itself. The Exchange adds to that appeal, with direct rail connections putting Central London within roughly 16 minutes, making it particularly convenient for professionals who commute into the city.

The area is also home to Warner Bros. Studios, which brings a strong base of creative and media professionals to the area. Combined with its easy transport links, growing employment opportunities and range of everyday amenities, Watford has plenty going for it, particularly for buyers considering the local rental market.

Bankside Gardens, Reading

Reading has grown into a popular business and technology destination, attracting international companies as well as a large pool of professionals. Being close to London is a big part of Reading’s appeal. Residents can enjoy the city’s opportunities while living in a less central and often more relaxed setting.

For those living at Bankside Gardens, the Elizabeth Line makes travelling into London convenient. The development also has a waterfront location and a selection of amenities on site, giving residents plenty of what they need close to home.

For overseas buyers, the appeal lies in the combination of a strong local employment base, access to London and a growing demand for high-quality homes.

Making a smarter property purchase

The seminars weren't just about individual developments. We also spent time discussing the practical side of buying property in the UK from overseas.

The sessions also covered some of the practical aspects of buying property in the UK. Our property finance experts also talked buyers through the pros and considerations of purchasing in their own name versus through a company, including the tax and ownership implications of each option.

We also looked at what Taiwanese buyers can expect from the UK mortgage market in 2026, from lending requirements and interest rates to the different factors lenders consider when deciding how much a buyer can borrow.

For families and high-net-worth buyers considering multiple properties, the team also talked through our VVIP packages and how buying more than one property could potentially offer greater value.

With properties starting at around NT$11.4 million , the sessions showed that buyers have a number of ways to get started in the UK property market. What makes the most sense will depend on your budget, what you hope to achieve and the way you choose to structure your purchase.
